3 Inexpensive Ways To Combat Pests In Your Home

No matter where you live, you’re bound to find some kind of pest or critter making home in your house on occasion. And while seeing a random spider or other pest may not solicit a need to call in a pest control expert, if you see evidence that more pests than you’d like are camping out in your home, you may want to start getting a little more serious about pest control.

If you’re needing to take action against household pests but don’t want to spend a lot of money to do it, here are three inexpensive ways you can combat pests in your home

Make Some Homemade Bird Feeders

One of the best and most natural ways to get rid of pests in or around your home is to think about the natural food chain. All animals have something that will hunt or eat them. Knowing this, you simply have to think about what the pest is that you have and then find out what you could introduce into the area that might keep that pest population in check.

According to Craig Donofrio, a contributor to Money Talks News, one great predator to a lot of different bugs found around homes is a bird. Birds eat bugs as one of their main sources of food, so they’re having to hunt for bugs of all shapes and sizes on a very regular basis. To encourage more birds to fly around your house and clean up and pests you’re dealing with, consider making some homemade bird feeders that you can hang up around your house. Then, as the birds come to get some easy food, they’ll have more convenient access to getting some of the bugs you’ve been housing, too.

Keep Things Clean

Often, household pests are attracted to your home because it offers them food that’s easy to come by. With this in mind, one of the best and cheapest ways to keep pests away is to simple clean your house more often.

In addition to keeping food scraps from being left around your house for pests to smell and then seek out, Laurel Randolph, a contributor to WiseBread.com, shares that you should also ensure that your garbage cans are kept clean so that they aren’t attracting any extra attention either.

Use DIY Pest Control Products

To take your pest control further, you can try to create your own pest control products with items you probably already have in your house.

Shannon Petrie, a contributor to HGTV.com, shares that things like vinegar, lemon, salt, catnip, essential oils, citrus, mint, and other items can often be used or combined together to create a solution that can serve to dissuade pests from coming into a certain area. Just make sure you find the right ingredients to fight off the exact pests you’re dealing with.

If you’re wanting to save money while also controlling the pests in your home, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you do both.
